Die Arbeit zeigt in stroboskopischer Bildfolge die Nase des Künstlers vor einer
Vielzahl wechselnder Berggipfel aus aller Welt. Trotz der unterschiedlichen
Höhen und
Entfernungen der Bergspitzen sowie verschiedenen Wetterlagen und Lichtverhältnisse ihrer Abbildungen tritt eine gemeinsame Grundform hervor.
Diese pyramidale Form korrespondiert auf spannungsreiche Weise mit derselben Grundform der menschlichen Nase. So wie sich an einem kleinen Teil des Körpers jeweils im Bruchteil einer Sekunde mittels wechselnder Lichtreflexe ein Landschaftsausschnitt widerspiegelt, verweisen die Berge auf die Gesichtszüge
des Menschen.
Die Kombination von menschlicher Nase und markanten Bergformationen weckt zahlreiche Assoziationen. Unter anderem könnte sie als kritischer Kommentar
zum Massentourismus mit seiner ideologischen Fixierung auf vermeintliche Sehenswürdigkeiten oder als ironischer Kommentar zu digitaler Bilderflut, zur
„Selfie-Kultur“ oder dem Insta-Travel-Phänomen gesehen werden.
The work shows a strobing sequence of images of the artists nose in front of a multitude of changing mountain peaks from around the world. Despite the different heights and distances of the mountain tops, as well as the different weather and lighting conditions shown in their images, a common shape emerges. Intriguingly, this pyramid shape resembles the same basic shape of the human nose. In a fraction
of a second, this small body part mirrors the landscape with its changing light reflections while the mountain scenes seem to echo the facial features of a human being.
The juxtaposition of a human nose and monumental mountain formations evokes numerous associations. Among other things, it could be seen as critical commentary on mass tourism with its fixation on alleged sights, or as ironic commentary on digital image overload, "selfie culture," and the Insta-Travel phenomenon. |
